Special guest post by GIzmo...the ladies man.

How to pick up the bitches

by Gizmo

The Ladies Man

Step one: Be inordinately handsome (see above picture)

Step two: Get this hat.

Step three: Find a sexy bitch.

Step 4:  Wear the aforementioned hat.

If all is well at this point, the following conversation should occur.

SB:  OMG, What rU supposed to be??

You: I'm a quest completor

SB: Wouldn't you wanna be a quest "giver" instead.

You: Naw baby, after you have me, your search is over, all your quest's are completed.

SB: orly?

If you just follow this foolproof plan, you will be seeing more of this:

And hopefully, a lot less of this:

See you next time,

Gizmo, the ladies man

Blue Devils Mirror '09, Make undefeated run to second straight title

Blue Devils
The 2010 World Championship Finals ended with the color gold for Blue. For the second year in a row, the Blue Devils won the gold medal in the World Class, concluding one of the most competitive Drum Corps International seasons in recent history.

“I’m not sure how we got there, but I know what made up the organization,” said Blue Devils Executive Director David Gibbs. “It's the staff, designers, instructors, and an amazing group of kids who were committed from day one to the end. The talent and commitment of these kids made it happen.”

The Blue Devils’ winning program, “Through a Glass, Darkly” was based on the experimental musical selections of Bob Graettinger’s “City of Glass” that was written for Stan Kenton. “We knew it probably wouldn't be the crowd favorite,” said Percussion Arranger Scott Johnson. “I don't want to say we didn't care about the crowd, because we always do, but we wanted to try something different. We figured after last year's success we had to do something different, and the performers bought into it.”

Yet perhaps the defining characteristic of the 2010 season was the exciting competitive action among corps outside of first place. In the weeks leading up to World Championship Finals, the Cavaliers and Bluecoats took second and third, sometimes switching for several nights in a row. During Finals week, the Cavaliers topped Bluecoats in all three shows, and also came closest to upending the Blue Devils at the Semifinals, reducing the margin to.7 on Friday. In the end, the corps took second place scoring 97.75.

The Maelstrom is probably epic enough for you now

The Maelstrom is probably epic enough for you now

A week or so ago, someone on the Cataclysm beta forums complained that the Maelstrom's appearance in the upcoming expansion just wasn't epic enough. It's a pretty silly thing to say. Valnoth, aka WoW Lead World Designer Alex Afrasiabi, apparently agreed and responded with the following:

Re: The Maelstrom?
Maybe I missed the memo on levels of "epicosity" or something, but I'm pretty sure the Maelstrom is a CLASS 10 epic zone. Though I guess it is missing sharks with laser beams patrolling the waters and Arthur Fonzarelli jumping across it with water skis. And dinosaurs.

And then, a bit later, posted:

Re: The Maelstrom?
After reading this post I called for a meeting with TOP TOP MEN (that's two tops) in order to figure out a solution to the problem at hand. Frankly, I think we hit a home run. The next 4.0 build (or the one after) should have a Maelstrom that's between 10 - 50x more epic than what currently exists.

Buckle yourselves into your computer chairs or face being blown away!

And sure enough, as promised, this latest beta build has turned the "Epic" dial up to 11 where the Maelstrom is concerned. Flying around it is Epicus Maximus <Paragon of Epicosity>, a level 90 elite shark, who is being ridden by an elite rare devilsaur named <And a Dinosaur> riding a rocket and manning (dinosauring?) a laser beam, being ridden by an undead mage playing guitar named <Rock On>.

That should suffice.

Breaking: chicken came before the egg

Don't ask us why British researchers are spending their time trying to solve the age-old "who came first" conundrum, but apparently solve it they have done. Lab dwellers from the universities of Sheffield and Warwick share the distinction of identifying the particular effects of a particular protein -- ovocleidin-17, found only in chickens' ovaries -- on the development of the egg's shell. It would seem that without OC-17 converting calcium carbonate into calcite crystals, one couldn't have an eggshell, meaning that the chicken and its special protein powers had to have developed first. How the world's going to react to having one of its favorite clichés wrestled away has yet to be determined.

Those Hobbits in the Bird and Baby | A Casual Stroll to Mordor

Well, Barfield said that stories worked the same way originally, and that there was no distinction between the workings of nature and acts of the gods in the minds of ancient storytellers. So the myths of ancient cultures are actually telling us something true about reality when they describe the gods causing natural disasters and interacting with human beings!

That sentence alone makes this article worth reading.

Game Boy condom concept helps you level up

Just like the iCade, this is one of those "just for fun" ideas that actually seems to make a great deal of commercial sense. Think about it, Nintendo has sold bajillions of handheld consoles in its time, and it keeps churning out sequels that mean even newer followers are familiar with such classics as Donkey Shlong. And Mario's mushroom-related growth spurts? Marketing gold! So why not capitalize on all that brand awareness with this selection of cheerfully colored condom cases? Designed by Ben Marsh and Julia Roach, they aim to "create a desire to purchase the product for aesthetic reasons," and quite frankly, they do succeed. This certainly puts a whole new spin on the idea of power-ups, though.

I wonder if the King pops up to give you a free iPod.

Burger King uses 'musical shower' as latest trick to entice Japanese clientele

A new Burger King eatery opening up in Japan isn't usually something we concern ourselves too much with, but this one comes with an interesting new twist. Those umbrella-aping translucent cones hanging over the tables are known as "musical showers," and their function is to deliver music in an isolated fashion to you and your significant -- but not too significant, it's still BK, after all -- other. All you'll need to do is plug your portable media player into the provided receptacle and the tunes you know and love will literally shower down upon you. To be honest, if the audio chanelling is sufficiently precise not to disturb nearby punters, we're loving this idea. Now just give it a name that won't make teenagers giggle and bring it westwards.

Oceans

Available July 6th on iTunes, proceeds from the U.S. sale of Pearl Jam's video "Amongst the Waves" will benefit Conservation International's Ocean Campaign. To learn more about this campaign and Conservation International's Ocean Initiatives, visit http://www.conservation.org/marine

PEARL JAM OCEANS

There is only one Ocean for everyone and everything.

It is a finite, precious resource under tremendous economic and environmental pressure.

Look after it.

Oceans...
- Cover 70% of the earth’s surface
- Provide up to 80% of the oxygen we breathe
- Are the protein source for 1 in 4 people worldwide
- Are home to 50% of all known species on earth

Eleven things you can do to look after the ocean for present and future generations:

  1. Support the Gulf Restoration Network

Pearl Jam is currently working closely with Gulf Restoration Network to help support the recovery and mitigation efforts in this region. We encourage you to visit http://www.gulffuture.org/ today to do what you can as well to help make a difference.

For more information on the Gulf Coast Oil Spill, please visit Pearl Jam's activism page at www.pearljam.com/activism for regular updates on what is being done in the Gulf region.

  2. Encourage renewable energy.

From the Desk of Captain Orly

Law firms suing Apple not impressed with explanation of reception issues

The fix from Apple for the increasing complaints about iPhone 4 reception is, not surprisingly, not going over very well with the lawyers representing people who are complaining of dropped calls.

Apple said yesterday it was 'stunned' to learn the signal strength graph on every iPhone made is not accurate, and is displaying much better reception than the phone is really getting. To fix it, Apple is going to recalibrate the display, essentially giving you fewer bars in more places.

Dan Ward, of Ward & Ward, one of the law firms suing Apple and AT&T told me:

We at Ward & Ward, along with many others, are very skeptical of this "fix." While Apple admits to misrepresenting to the public [about] the signal strength its iPhone 4 is receiving, and then says they will fix that problem, there is no indication that this "fix" will actually solve the underlying design problem.

Another firm with clients suing Apple, Mason LLP, told TechCrunch:

Our investigation revealed that users lost reception when gripping the phone in a conventional manner. We believe that the problem is not merely how the signal strength is displayed but involves a physical blocking of the antennae which cuts off calls.

The other firms suing Apple are also not likely to be persuaded by Apple's explanation, so don't expect those lawsuits to go away any time soon.

This is about a big suprise as The Last Airbender sucking was.

5 billion mobile phones by the end of 2010 -- but where are the apps and games?

5 billion mobile phones by the end of 2010 -- but where are the apps and games?

A research group has just released an astonishing figure: at the end of the first quarter, 2010, there were 4.8 billion mobile phone connections across the world. The same report says that by the end of the year there will be no less than 5 billion connected mobile phones.

To put this into perspective: there are only 7 billion souls on this planet. That means 71% of the entire world has a mobile phone -- a computer, a potential lifeline -- in their pocket.

As you'd expect, those missing 2 billion are mostly from the developing and third world, namely Africa and the Asia-Pacific regions. But those are also the areas of fastest growth -- just last year, India and Indonesia have connected 150 million new phones. If adoption continues at such a rate, which it surely must, we will soon have a world where everyone, except newborn children, has a mobile phone in their pocket.

But where is the software? Where are the games?

There are families with 10 children, living in mud huts with no running water -- but they have a mobile phone. Instead of water wells dotting the horizon there are telephone pylons. Try to get your head around this picture: a child, unfed and uneducated, slumped against a ramshackle outhouse somewhere in sub-Saharan Africa. He's playing Snake on his Nokia phone.

Now, I'm sure running water and schooling would be a better long-term solution, but wouldn't it be great if people living tough lives in even tougher conditions had a better array of games and apps on their 'dumbphone'?

We're pouring billions of dollars into 3D games and gee-whiz apps that simulate the drinking of beer or the sound of a pistol being fired. What if we spent a little more on text-based educational games for children, or apps that assist in agricultural planning? How about an English-Their Language dictionary? The Bible?

I don't actually know what games and apps would be well-received in developing countries. Nokia, Ericsson, LG and Samsung, please find out. You might not make a lot of money, but you would be doing the world a huge favor.

Pretty interesting commentary on things. Kinda makes you go hmmm.

Blockbuster to be delisted from the NYSE

Blockbuster-store

Blockbuster continues its downward spiral as it has been suspended from trading and forced to delist from the NYSE effective next Wednesday. Currently trading at $0.18 per share, Blockbuster failed to win majority stockholder approval last week for a reverse stock split that would have brought its stock above the $1 threshold and back in compliance with the NYSE. In a move that delays any immediate bankruptcy proceedings, Blockbuster was given a one-month reprieve on debt payments that the movie rental giant failed to pay on July 1st. The creditors, which hold nearly $440 million of Blockbuster’s whopping $920 million of debt, agreed to postpone any “remedies” until August 13th. In the upcoming weeks, Blockbuster is hoping to negotiate with partners to get a quick infusion of cash by possibly converting some bondholders to equity investors. This quick fix may be a little too little, a little too late and may only delay the inevitable bankruptcy as Blockbuster shows no signs of becoming profitable in the foreseeable future.

Try Not To Laugh. Fail-a-thon.

Star Wars: The Old Republic E3 Muliplayer Video

Here is the link since they are usually a bit slow with making the videos available to download.

But I mean really, they should have released a different video.  This was the demo shown to press at E3, but also shown in a bit shorter form on G4's live coverage.  It was also the video they got a lot of crap for since the consular just hangs out in the back and heals.  They did come out and say it was just because the person playing her was just acting as a camera and really just trying to show all the action.  And true in this version she does do a bit more then just play healbot.  Either way, I myself and I am sure every other Star Wars nerd out there has seen the G4 video about 1000000 times already and this video, while still cool, is a bit of a let down.

Some say Bioware is killing the momentum they picked up at E3, I say they are just returning to the pace of info being released that were at before E3.  Lets hope they trickle out some new info going forward in future friday updates instead of going backwards like this week.

Really though, they should have released something a bit cooler since this is basically just a re-showing of things that anyone interested in this game has already seen 1000 times.

Rumor: Apple has a CDMA iPhone, just needs Verizon to ink a deal

by Michael Bettiol on July 1st, 2010 at 3:01pm
Filed under: Apple, CDMA, Handsets, Verizon, iOS 164 Comments

verizon-wireless-iphone

Today, The Loop’s Jim Dalrymple wrote an interesting article that should give a lot of confused people some perspective on this whole Verizon iPhone business. Not surprisingly, Dalrymple reports that Apple already has a fully functional CDMA iPhones, lurking in the shadows of 1 Infinite Loop, that is ready to go into production at a moment’s notice. The problem, according  Dalrymple, is that Apple and Verizon have yet to finalize a deal. Having the iPhone hardware lying on a shelf waiting to be mass produced is beneficial for both companies; as it won’t have to scramble to make up for lost time once the deal is struck. Apple also has a long history of developing products well in advance — a good example of this was its Intel-compatible version of OS X. So why then did Bloomberg so confidently report that Verizon will have the iPhone in January? That could simply be a negotiating tactic, something which would not at all be out of the ordinary.

If this could only be true, it would make me a very happy boy. My years of iPhone envy could finally come to an end as I laugh at all you AT&T'ers and your lack of bars. Bwhahahahahaha
